Default 'Journalist of the Year' contest continues

June 15 is the last day of voting for the Arkansas “Journalist of the Year.” Beginning on May 15 five “Write for Arkansas” reporters were entered into the competition, and the Arkansas Community Foundation is asking APA members to help select the “Fan Favorite” from among the candidates. Those wishing to cast a vote for the Reporter of the Year should go to the official Write for Arkansas website, www.WriteforArkansas.org, where there are samples of each reporter’s work, profiles on each of the contestants and an interface for voting for the reporter whose stories each visitor finds the most effective.

Participating in the contest are the five recipients of Write for Arkansas Grants, Whitney Snipes of The Courier, Russellville; Sarah Morris of the Stuttgart Daily Leader; Richard Irby of Areawide Media, Salem; Matt Shelnutt of the Madison County Record, Huntsville; and Eric Nicholson of the Texarkana Gazette.

In addition to the online contest, the Arkansas Press Association is also convening a panel of out-of-state judges to select a Critic’s Choice favorite. The winners of both categories (Critic’s Choice and Fan Favorite) will be announced at the APA’s SuperConvention in Hot Springs, July 20-23.
More information about the Write for Arkansas initiative is available at its website. Write for Arkansas fans can follow the project on Twitter @writeforAR.

Write for Arkansas is a collaboration between the Arkansas Press Association and Arkansas Community Foundation to provide grant funding to help five community newspapers each add an additional reporter. The grants were made possible in part by a challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Default "Fan Favorite" to be announced at SuperConvention

Wednesday was the last day to vote online for the Arkansas “Journalist of the Year.” Beginning on May 15 five “Write for Arkansas” reporters were entered into the competition, and the Write for Arkansas organizers asked APA members to help select the “Fan Favorite” from among the candidates. Live results of the voting were being posted through yesterday on the site, www.WriteforArkansas.org, but do not appear there today. The official winners will be announced in July at the APA’s annual convention.

In addition to the recently-concluded online contest, the Arkansas Press Association is also convening a panel of out-of-state judges to select a Critic’s Choice favorite. The winners of both categories (Critic’s Choice and Fan Favorite) will be announced at the APA’s SuperConvention in Hot Springs during the Welcome Luncheon on Fri., July 22, at noon. It will be followed by a panel discussion at 2:00 p.m. with all of the Write for Arkansas journalists.
