Thumbs up No postal rate hike for 2010

John E. Potter, Postmaster General and U.S. Postal Service CEO, says there will be no periodicals class rate increase in 2010.

That’s good news for thousands of newspapers across the country and the majority of APA member newspapers who use periodicals class mail to deliver their newspapers through the U.S. Postal Service.

In making the announcement, however, the postmaster general did not address the proposition of dropping to a five days a week postal delivery schedule. Eliminating Saturday delivery was one of the ways Potter had suggested to save money for a USPS that is losing money by the millions.
Eliminating Saturday delivery would impact hundreds of newspapers. An announcement on the planned service elimination is expected any day.
