Default ANF to offer 10 reimbursement grants

Karen Brown, executive director of the Arkansas Newspaper Foundation (ANF), announced Tuesday on APA’s Web site that the foundation will award up to 10 education reimbursement grants of $200.00 each to persons wishing to attend November’s ArkLaMiss Circulation Conference.

Grants will be limited to one per newspaper, Brown said, and applicants must be employed by a newspaper that is a member in good standing of the Arkansas Press Association (APA). A reimbursement grant will be funded up to $200.00, offsetting some of the costs of attending the conference, e.g. fees, food, lodging or mileage—as long as receipts are provided.

A completed application is required. The application was sent to all members and subscribers of APA’s Jobs Bulletin last week and is available for download via the APA Web site. (It can be found in the APA News section of the front page.) To apply, edit the document, filling in the information requested, and email it as an attachment to Karen Brown (karenb@commpub.com). Further questions can be directed to Brown via the email address above or by phone (479.936.6471).

Grants will be awarded on a “first come, first served” basis, so time is of the essence for those who would like to receive a grant.

The Circulation Conference, presented by the press associations of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, will be held Nov. 6-7 at the Ameristar Casino & Hotel in Vicksburg, Miss.
Reservations are being accepted at a group rate of $89.00 until October 20, when the discount will no longer be available. Registration forms will soon be distributed to all APA members and will be available for download at the association’s Web site. The registration deadline is November 1. For more information contact Terri Cobb at the APA (501.374.1500; 1.800.569.8762; terri@arkansaspress.org).

The 2008 ArkLaMiss Circulation Conference promises to be a rewarding experience for those who attend. Don Michel, who has provided training and consulting services for newspapers across North America, will be the keynote speaker, and Max Heath, postal guru and chairman of the National Newspaper Association’s (NNA) Postal Committee, will be on hand to help circulators find ways to save money for their newspapers.
