Default 2008 Session - Community Journalism

Community Journalism – Jock Lauterer, Carolina Community Media Project

I attended Jock Lauterer’s session when he was at APA two years ago and afterwards I immediately bought his book: Community Journalism: Relentlessly Local. I would have done the same this time if I didn’t already have one. He instills a passion for community coverage in those who might be lacking it, and he reinforces it for those who are already believers.

Community Journalism: Relentlessly Local

One of the points he made is for newsrooms to be accessible to the public. From the handout: “The doors of your newsroom should be just as open as the doors of the homes, offices and meeting rooms of the people you expect to cover.”

My summer cold was at its worst during Thursday morning’s sessions, and I hate that I can’t give this session the report it deserves, but perhaps someone else can help.
