Default 2008 Session - Web Training, Blogging

Web Training – Jon Rust, Rust Communications; Blogging – Max Brantley, Arkansas Times

Jon’s presentation was heavily based on the Newspaper Next research (www.newspapernext.org), which deals with possible new business models for the newspaper industry. We can see the internet as a threat or an opportunity. Successful newspapers will take advantage of the opportunities that are there. Newspapers in his company’s chain direct traffic from the newspaper to the website, and vice versa. They often break news first on the website, then provide more detail in printed reports.

Max Brantley discussed the success of blogs for the Arkansas Times, and how having blogs drove traffic to their site and helped make it a place where people look to find breaking news.

We have plans for several blogs at the Leader, and we already have ideas for having content at the website that will complement and not compete with what is in our print product.
