Default Bingo advertising questions continue

On July 31, charitable bingo operations and raffles became legal in Arkansas pursuant to the passage of Act 388, the Charitable Bingo and Raffles Enabling Act, during the 2007 Arkansas General Assembly.

The statute only authorizes advertising for duly licensed organization, those to which the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) has issued a license. Only those organizations are permitted to advertise bingo games or raffles.

Prior to the effective date, the DFA enacted emergency regulations and began issuing licenses (over 100 by mid-July) even though it was not yet legal to run games, so there are many organizations that have already been authorized to advertise.

It is important for any newspaper accepting advertising for bingo games and raffles to confirm that the entity placing the ads has a valid license. APA recommends requiring a license prior to acceptance, inspecting it for current dates, ascertaining that it was issued by the DFA and retaining a copy.
