Default Wills named to Arkansas Supreme Court

Elana Wills, Deputy Attorney General of Arkansas and a member of the Arkansas Freedom of Information Coalition, has been named to the Arkansas Supreme Court by Governor Mike Beebe. She will succeed retiring Justice Tom Glaze.

A native of Jonesboro and resident of Little Rock, Wills has served in the Office of the Arkansas Attorney General for 20 years, the last 11 as Deputy Attorney General for opinions. She worked with Gov. Beebe for four years when he served as Attorney General.

“She will be an objective and fair-minded justice who will render well-qualified legal interpretations while serving on the Supreme Court,” Gov. Beebe said, adding that Wills is an expert on the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Wills has worked extensively with Tom Larimer and me on FOIA-related projects. For years, she has helped compile the statutory and case law sections of the Freedom of Information Handbook published by the APA. She was a featured speaker when the association teamed with the Attorney General’s Office to present a series of Freedom of Information Act Seminars across the state. And, she spent many years participating in the Freedom of Information Coalition spearheaded by APA.

Everyone will benefit from having such a devotee to and expert on FOIA serving on the state Supreme Court.
