Walter Hussman, publisher of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and head of WEHCO Media, was honored Monday at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with the University’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. Hussman is a 1968 graduate of UNC and a third-generation newspaper publisher. In honoring him, UNC notes that he has worked to improve public education in Little Rock and has supported the Arkansans for Education Reform Foundation and the creation of three state-funded charter schools, according to the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association (SNPA) weekly newsletter.
